Tech Talks by UPT is the flagship innovation platform of Politehnica University Timișoara, one of Europe’s historic engineering universities and a leader in shaping public understanding of technology.
In a world where most tech events are commercial, UPT chose a different path: to curate the future not for profit, but for the public.
Tech Talks turns frontier topics, such as AI, Quantum Computing, Digital Democracy, Aerospace, Biomedical Engineering, into accessible knowledge that anyone can understand, regardless of background.

Tech Talks began as part of the Flight Festival Edutainment Program, founded by Ovidiu Megan. What started as an artistic-educational experiment quickly proved its societal value.
In 2022, the concept was entrusted to Politehnica University Timișoara, becoming part of the Rector’s strategic vision to position UPT as a public voice in technology.
Under UPT’s leadership, Tech Talks evolved from a festival stage into a national platform for democratizing knowledge and connecting Romania to global thinkers.

From insightful keynotes to engaging workshops and memorable conversations, this event brought together a community passionate about innovation and collaboration.
As the very first Tech Talks edition, it set the tone from day one – a space where ideas met practice, people met future collaborators, and the energy in the room proved that Timișoara was ready to build, learn, and move forward together.
Tech Talks 2023 explored how AI already reshaped everyday life – not someday, but in the routines, platforms, and institutions people depended on.
AI: Life around Tech mapped the invisible layers of influence – information, trust, work, and public conversation.
With Jimmy Wales as the main speaker, the edition returned to first principles – open knowledge, responsibility, and the long-term consequences of the systems we built.The takeaway felt simple and demanding – progress was real, but so were the stakes.
In 2024, the conversation turned decisively toward people. AI for Humanity was less about tools and more about choices – how societies, organizations, and individuals could use AI without surrendering agency, accountability, or ethics.
Garry Kasparov, the main speaker, pushed the audience to think in principles, not hype – to ask better questions, recognize trade-offs, and keep human judgment at the center.
It was a clear message, delivered with intensity – the future was not just engineered, it was decided.
Quantum computing is moving from theory to impact, and Tech Talks 2025 puts that shift under the spotlight. With Michio Kaku as main speaker, this edition mapped the moment when computation starts behaving differently – and the consequences ripple into security, science, and industry.
